Museion

The new museum of modern and contemporary art in Bozen

It is situated in Bozen, the new museum of modern and contemporary art named "Museion". It lays near Talfer river and it is a big glassy cube.

From the outside you can look inside and from the inside you can see the historic center of Bozen and the beautiful Talfer river and coast.

The new museum "Museion" was opened in May 2008 and thanks to the European Biennale "Manifesta" – which this year takes place in South Tyrol and Trentino – also the Museion gets international attention by art-critics and media.

The Museion was founded in 1985-1987 by a private organization with assistance from the province of Bozen. In the first years it was very regionally minted: it had to document and to promote regional art from 1900 on. At the beginning of the 90ties the former Museion compared Italian and German art. Only after this period the Museion began to engage in modern and contemporary art and exhibitions. The efforts culminate in the construction of a new, modern building, where the Museion is quartered now.

The new Museion opens with the exhibition: "Peripherer Blick und kollektiver Körper", which is absolutely worth visiting.
